Beta Marine marine diesels

Kubota-based auxiliaries, popular for repowers.

Beta Marine marinises Kubota industrial base engines for marine use, across a range that covers sailing-yacht auxiliaries through to larger yacht and light commercial installations.

Why it comes up in repower conversations

Two reasons owners raise it. The first is the base engine: Kubota industrial engines exist in very large numbers worldwide, which affects how base-engine parts are sourced and understood. The second is that the range is built around mechanical simplicity in the smaller sizes, which appeals to owners who want to maintain and diagnose their own engine.

As always, the marinisation parts — heat exchanger, raw-water pump, exhaust components, panel and loom — are separate from the base engine for parts purposes. Ask which parts come from where before assuming availability.

Fit is the practical question

For a repower, the deciding factors are rarely brand: they are physical fit to the beds, gearbox and shaft or drive compatibility, ratio and propeller match, exhaust and cooling capacity, panel and loom, and weight. See repowering a boat and engine installation for the complete list.

Before you buy or repower

  • Which model matches the required power and gearbox ratio for your existing propeller?
  • Physical dimensions, weight and mounting arrangement against your beds?
  • Which parts are base-engine and which are marinisation, and where does each come from?
  • What does the supplier include: engine only, or engine, panel, loom, exhaust and commissioning?
