Privacy policy
Marine Diesel Engines Australia (https://www.marinedieselengines.com.au) publishes independent educational content about marine diesel engines. This policy explains what personal information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to align with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include — typically details of your boat, engine and the fault you are asking about. We use it to answer you and for nothing else.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting and analytics providers record technical data when you visit: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring page and approximate location derived from IP address. This is used to understand which content is useful and to keep the site working.
We do not ask for, and have no use for, sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act. We do not sell personal information.
Cookies and advertising
The site may carry third-party advertising. Advertising and analytics providers may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser to measure performance and to select which ads you see, including based on your previous browsing. These providers act as independent controllers of the data they collect.
You can control this. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, and Google's ad settings and the industry opt-out tools let you limit ad personalisation. Blocking cookies does not stop you reading anything here.
Where your data goes
Our hosting, email and analytics providers may store and process data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. We share personal information with these providers only to run the site, and we do not disclose your enquiries to marine businesses, advertisers or anyone else.
How long we keep it
Emails are kept while the conversation is useful and then deleted. Analytics data is retained for the period set by the analytics provider, in aggregate form.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@marinedieselengines.com.au and we will respond within a reasonable period. If you are not satisfied with how we handle a privacy complaint, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Children
This site is written for boat owners and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
This policy describes how the site actually operates and is written in plain English. It is not legal advice. Have it reviewed by an Australian lawyer before relying on it, particularly if you add forms, accounts, newsletters or affiliate tracking.
