Nanni marinises industrial base engines for marine use, with a range covering sailing-yacht auxiliaries through to larger yacht and catamaran installations. Nanni-powered boats are reasonably common in the Australian cruising fleet, particularly among production catamarans and European-built yachts.
The parts question is the important one
As with any marinised range, parts split into two categories: base-engine parts, which follow the industrial engine underneath, and marine parts specific to the marinisation. Owners occasionally discover this at an inconvenient moment, when a part described as unavailable through one channel is readily available through the other.
Establish both channels before you need them: which parts are base-engine, which are Nanni-specific, and what the lead time is on each in your part of Australia.
Saildrives and installation
Many Nanni-powered yachts and catamarans use saildrive installations, which carry their own maintenance system, corrosion controls and time-limited diaphragm. Assess the drive separately from the engine — see saildrive systems.
Before you buy or repower
- Exact model and serial, and the base engine underneath it?
- Which parts channel supplies which components, and at what lead time?
- Saildrive service and diaphragm history, if fitted?
- Condition of the raw-water circuit and exhaust.
